Michael A. O’Sullivan, aka “Sully”
Sully finds himself coming full circle, many years later, from the days when was an altar boy, lector and lawn mower at Holy Martyrs Church in Falmouth, Maine. “I would often go to church with my mother on a Saturday afternoon while she arranged flowers for the next day’s service; now I’m doing the same with Jan.” Today, however, Sully is more likely to be focused on our building maintenance and finances but can sometimes be found pulling weeds at CiB. He learned early on that many hands are needed to nurture and serve a church community.
Sully graduated from a Jesuit high school (Cheverus in Portland, Maine) and college (Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts) and earned an MBA from The Tuck School at Dartmouth College. In 1990, he and his wife, Jan Fox, moved from Maine when Sully joined an international real estate consulting firm in DC. He is currently a licensed Realtor in Maryland and DC. They have four children and two grandchildren – spread from Portland, ME to Concord, NH to Fredericksburg VA to Vancouver BC.
On being part of Church in Bethesda: “Jan and I had been searching for some time for a place where we could come together on our spiritual journeys. We found it at CiB. It isn’t so much a non-denominational church as it is a multi-denominational Christian church. It’s a place where people can bring their faith backgrounds from many corners to learn from each other and to grow. Church in Bethesda is a place where I can honestly explore my faith and what it means to be a Christian.”
